Weight Loss Seminars
Patients who feel they are fighting a losing battle with their weight can receive personalized guidance at the USMD Hospital at Arlington Bariatric Center. Improving their overall health and lifestyle is the goal for those with weight management issues, particularly when they are also dealing with diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea.

Lap-Band

USMD Hospital at Arlington specializes in laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, also known as lap-band surgery. During the procedure, surgeons usually use laparoscopic techniques (using small incisions and long-shafted instruments), to implant an inflatable silicone band into the patient's abdomen. The procedure is minimally invasive and highly effective. Read more...

Gastric Sleeve

The vertical sleeve gastrectomy (Gastric Sleeve) is a type of weight loss surgery where 60-85% of the stomach is removed laparoscopically so that the stomach takes the shape of a small tube or "sleeve." Weight loss is achieved because of the resulting restricted food intake. The removal of the majority of the stomach also results in the reduction of hormones produced within the stomach that stimulate hunger. More information coming soon.

Gastric Bypass

IIn Gastric Bypass surgery, the surgeon creates a small pouch at the top of the stomach and constructs bypasses of parts of the small intestine. This procedure restricts food intake, so patients feel full more quickly than when the stomach was its original size. Bypassing part of the small intestine also results in fewer calories being absorbed. The combination of reduced consumption and reduced absorption leads to weight loss. More information coming soon.
