For men with certain types of erectile dysfunction (ED), penile implants offer the only long-term solution. USMD Hospital at Arlington is among the top 10 hospitals in the country in terms of the number of penile implants performed. Several types of implants are available. Your USMD surgeon will help you decide which option is right for you.
Inflatable Penile Implants
While there are one-, two- and three-part inflatable penile implants on the market today, USMD surgeons most often use the more advanced three-part inflatable implant. It provides a more natural-appearing erection and greater flaccidity when not erect than the one- and two-part devices, and is available in a variety of models and sizes for a more customized fit. Each three-part device – totally concealed within the body – consists of a reservoir implanted in the abdomen, a pump placed in the scrotum and a pair of cylinders implanted in the penis. It does require some manual dexterity to operate, and as with all mechanical devices, there is a slight possibility of malfunction.
